Asheville Gay Men’s Chorus

Dear friends and allies of the AVLGMC:

Everyone in our area has been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene and the destruction she wrought on our community. We hope you and yours are safe and well during this crisis.

Happily all our members are safe and accounted for. Many are simply trying to secure the basics of food, water and shelter. The availability of gasoline is sporadic and cell service and internet access are spotty at best. Running water will not be available to many for weeks.

Our rehearsal space The Cathedral of All Souls in Biltmore Village was severely damaged. Our storage space where our sheet music, decor, supplies and electronics reside (also in Biltmore Village) is still inaccessible due to water and safety concerns. We are hopeful that our equipment and music collection are intact, and if not that insurance will cover our losses.

We are overwhelmed and grateful for the number of people and kindred organizations who have reached out with offers of help and support. The reality is that we don’t know what we need at this point. We’re also in the process of setting up fundraisers for individual members who have been displaced and have lost much of what they owned.

Once we have a better sense of what the future holds we will reach out with information about upcoming concerts and ways you can help us rebuild. We always welcome donations but encourage you to take care of yourselves, families and neighbors first.

We look forward to continuing to build community through music in our beautiful (though now decimated) city once we reach a level of safety and a sense of normality that we do not currently enjoy. During this difficult time, please care for one another and find a moment of beauty to enjoy. We will be back soon!
