AUDITIONS
for Holiday 2024
Thursday, September 26
5:30-6:20pm
DID YOU KNOW?
To sing in the AVLGMC:
You don’t have to be gay! AND
You don’t have to be a man!
The AVLGMC accepts singers of all gender expressions and sexual identities who can sing in the Tenor and Bass voice ranges and support our mission to entertain, advocate, and connect community through choral excellence.
Auditioning can cause many people stress, but we try to make it as easy and friendly as possible. The audition is private. The Artistic Director, accompanist and one or two members of our operational staff will be the only ones in the room during your audition.
Please prepare a song for your audition. Your selection can be classical, popular, or from the musical theatre repertoire. Show us what you got!
If you do not feel comfortable with a prepared solo, you will be asked to sing a familiar song such as “Happy Birthday,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” etc. After you have sung for us, the Artistic Director will have you sing some simple scales and match pitches to determine your vocal range and what voice part (tenor 1, tenor 2, baritone. or bass) best suits your voice. We will ask you to sight-read a piece of music to gauge your level of reading skills, however if you do not read music, that is okay, as long as you can hold pitch, have a good ear, and can sing back snippets of melody or harmony.
We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 with additional tech and dress rehearsals during concert week. Your attendance at these rehearsals is integral to the success of the chorus so please understand the commitment before you audition.
Relax and enjoy the experience! Take a deep breath. We all know how stressful this may feel to you and we will do our best to make your audition a positive experience.
We cannot wait for you to sing for us!
Email Brent Kimbro, at bkkimbro@gmail.com to schedule your ten minute time slot for Thursday Sept 26 between 5:30 and 6:20. You will receive an email back from Brent confirming your time and providing location details.
Member dues and duties
We do have dues and other costs, HOWEVER, we never turn away someone due to financial restraints. We offer assistance to help our members. Members are asked to assist with publicity and ticket sales for concerts and to provide assistance as needed to facilitate performances and rehearsals (small stuff like helping move equipment, greeting audience members, etc.). There are opportunities for solo and small ensemble performances as well.
