The Audition: What to expect
Please bring a prepared selection if you have one, with a copy of sheet music for our accompanist. You are welcome to bring your own accompanist if you are more comfortable with that. If you do not have something prepared to sing, you can sing a favorite song of your choice without accompaniment. Your selection can be classical, popular, or from the musical theatre repertoire. Show us what you’ve got!
We will ask you to sight-read music to gauge your level of reading skills, and to match pitches to find out about your aural skills. We will listen to the upper and lower limits of your voice in order to hear the range, quality and timbre of your voice, and to get an idea as to where you might best fit in to our sections (tenor 1, tenor 2, baritone and bass).
If you do not read music, that’s okay, as long as you can hold pitch, have a good ear, and can sing back snippets of melody or harmony.
We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00, with additional “dress” rehearsals before concerts as needed.
Member dues and duties
We do have dues and other costs, HOWEVER, we never turn away someone due to financial restraints. We offer assistance to help our members. Members are asked to assist with publicity and ticket sales for concerts and to provide assistance as needed to facilitate performances and rehearsals (small stuff like helping move equipment, greeting audience members, etc.). There are opportunities for solo and small ensemble performances as well.
